Keep in mind that the end of WWII came about rather abruptly, had we needed
to invade Japan, the war would have gone on much longer,hence requiring much
more equipment.  To that end, there were huge stockpiles of everything, from
a country whose industrial might was unmatched.  At the same time, strides
were being made in the electronics art so fast that almost everything
designed for and even during the war was obsolete by its end, hence the
large glut of electronics after the war.
