I have been reading this with great intrest.
When I first got into playing with radios and the like
around 1945 and after I 11 or so years old.My uncle (
my dads brother) got a job with a surplus radio dealer
on radio row ( Michigan Ave Chicago)He was the manager
I belive.Well every time we went to visit him and my
aunt he had stuff for me and when he cam to our house
he had stuff for me.I remember going with my dad to
vist him at the store as well many times he had stuff
for me.Lots of ARC stuff and BC 348's and the list
goes on he had given me.They at one time were selling
Philmore kis and I had some of those.I did buy one
thing they didnt have from a store in New York it was
a BC 654 for 8.00 I think the shipping was 2.00.The
store my uncle worked at was Arrow Electrnics. When I
joined the Navy in 1952 my mom and dad sold our home
to move to smaller place as my brother and I were not
there anymore ( he was married ) and my grandmother
who lived with us passed away. They sent me a letter
asking me what I wanted to do with all the radio stuff
and all the car parts I had.I told them to give the
radio stuff to my friend who was also a radio nut.The
car parts went to the junk man ( flathead Ford stuff
).
A couple of years ago my friend passed away and I got
all my old radio stuff back as well as all of his
stuff from his widow.I still have it and now when I am
gone it goes to a very close friend of mine.
What great fun for a kid and a now and an old fart.
Carl
