As others have written, Cabc-xypqr-z translates
Cabc - Contractor ID. Many can be found on Fred Chesson's site.
xy - function
pqr - unique equipment ID. As Mike Hanz pointed out, this is numerical
except for radar equipment (then it is alphabetic).
z - Equipment version
It's the xy function info that's most informative. I'm sure there's an
official list somewhere on the net, but I don't know where. Until someone
posts something more complete and official, here's a short list from
equipment and manuals that I have:
10 - Mounting plates, cases
14 - Antenna switch
19 - Batteries
20 - Rectifier power unit
21 - Mechanical power unit
22 - Meters
23 - Control unit
24 - Switches
26 - Keyer
29 - Antenna relay
30 - Inductors/transformers
40 - Crystal unit
43 - Receiver-Transmitter unit
46 - Receiver
47 - Tuning unit
48 - Capacitors
49 - Audio output panels, jacks, speakers, sockets, cables
50 - Modulator
51 - Audio input (microphone) unit
52 - Transmitter
55 - Remote indicator unit
60 - Testing unit
61 - Insulators/terminals
62 - Junction box
63 - Resistors
66 - Antenna unit
69 - Loop antenna
71 - Antenna reel
74 - Frequency meter
You'll often find examples of redundancies and seemingly inappropriate
assignments of function code to some components.
