GE All, I recently acquired a field phone test set off the Greed site,
with the following nomenclature
TS-1323/PTM-7
by Raytheon Co.
NSN: 6625-00-902-7574

The unit looks pristine, but I have to power it up and check it our....
I also, of course am in need of a manual both operation and repair,
since this is my practice, I always try to get all the pertinent manuals
for equipment, cause they always need fixing and calibration..... I
never even bothered to see what phones this test set was for, so if
anyone can fill me in here, I would appreciate same... I have quite a
few, from the EE-8 on up, but this is '70s 80;s vintage, and whatever
phones this was designed to test, I would like to acquire at the same
time.....those having rollls of phone wire are welcome to make sales
offer to this milspec addict.....besides, its kinda fun having the XYL
comment on the basement (Not more junk, Greg........don't you have
enough (NEVER!!!) .ok, My stock reply is "Isabel, this isn't junk, this
is PURE, UNADULTERATED UNOBTANIUM, think of it as an
investment.....Please be aware that my basement is neat, all the
equipment works, is hooked up and operating, I am able to switch any
reciever or transmitter to my console, and the whole area resembles a
Navy MainComm/Radio Central...even down to the florescent lights, the
braided sheath armored cable, and brilliantly polished brightwork on the
spliceboxes and switch covers, even have a sound power phone jack which
runs upstairs, but is disguised there, for the XYL/and recently returned
Daughter, would not appreciate the humor, nor the usefulness of a
soundpower phone set... I was thinking about mounting a few squeaker
telephone sets, but believe this would be over the top....

Incidentally, most of this stuff, hopefully, will one day help to refit
the USS America, if we can pry her away from NAVSEA, etc/ As
Preservations Officer (one of several, Electrical/Electronics/Comms/ as
many other hats as the Foundation deems to ask me to wear) my speciality
(hey what else --hi--) I ask everyone, when they have the chance to go
to the USS America Museum Foundation website, listed in my signature,
but if you are anxious to go theer

http://www.ussamerica-museumfoundation.org

I am listed under the "key contacts", and our mission statement and
method of carrying out that mission are well described within that
site/ Please, sign our petition, write, phone, loobby the heck out of
your elected officials to see this outstanding vessel does not
ignominiously end up being sunk for target practice. I had the pleasure
of visiting her in 1992, and the vandalism was appalling, the sight of a
bank of 24 channel audio switchpanels, with the knobs and switch shafts
broken off with sledgehammers was bad enough, but to see EVERY 1MC
speaker (reproducer in NavSpeak) had the point of a fire axe thru the
speaker grille. 85 percent of the patch panels were hammered, and no
less than 3 R-1051 recievers were reduced to scrap by repeated blows,
the connectors cut off and missing, and 2 AN/URA-17
converter/comparitors, similarily vandalised, with said fire axe right
thru the center of the CRT's. 3 M28ASR teletype units were attempted to
be smashed, but the cretins who did this didn't know how to open the
case, so the innards are untouched, with full up
components, reperfs, intact relay boxes for level translation, and the
only real damage were several (replacable) keys busted. The whole
thing was enough to make a grown man show tears.......

None of this, however, detracts in the least from the outstanding
material condx of the ship, she is dry, sound, and outside of the
willful removal of the catwalks and other comonents, given a little
work, "in all respects ready for sea".....well, maybe more than a little
work, but we are a dedicated bunch of both ships crew and airwing who
intend to make her a museum which none can rival, Personally, I want a
fully functional comm suite, as the refit would be to her early years
when she did valiant service on the line in the Tonkin Gulf, and this
old RM1 was proud to have served aboard her. Sorry about the long
screed, I just want everyone to sign the petition, and raise so much
hell with their elected officicials that they can't ignore
us....Hopefully, we will have a rally at pierside, in PHL, to show just
how much support we have, but this is still in the planning/brainstorm
stage, more to follow........

I will now end, I am mainly interested in the manual for the field phone
test set above, but I couldn't resist a rousing speech (I am listening
to our C in C at the convention, and got carried away for a second. as
the speech was outstanding)....

Thanks much, guys, I will also be doing some beggary for some BC-348
parts to restore a unit which was "improved" many years ago, and the
AGC/OFF/MGC switch missing, some antenna connectors missing, replaced
with an SO-239 on the back panel, some pilot lamps added, as well as an
"S" meter, which, incidentally, doesn't look bad, as the meter is the
same vintage, but I have to get into this job before I can submit a list
of "I Need" to the list --hi--......Incidentally, I do need a handle for
the left side, as it broke while I was attempting to pull the
chassis...I can braze/weld this, but a new handle would be a good
thing......
