Fair Radio still has original copies of the "Operating Manual" for the ASB-5
for $10. It's a better than average manual of this type, with plenty of
operating info and line drawings and cabling diagrams. Of course it has no
schematics or technical info such as operating frequency or theory. The Mil
Equipment sites indicate that they have a schematic of the CPR-46ABJ
receiver, yet all they really have is a simplified ARB receiver schematic
there!
The manual lists the CQW-46ABO as the receiver unit, though the ASB-5
receiver most commonly encountered in surplus seems (to me) to be the
CPR-46ABJ. I wonder if the CPR-46ABJ was an improved component that later
replaced the CQW-46ABO, or maybe it's the other way around.
Some have mentioned they have obtained most ASB-5 components except the
receiver and antennas. But the receiver is the only ASB-5 component I've
personally ever come across in real life. I've seen several on ebay in the
past couple of years.
