Yes, Jim, I remember meeting you at
this year's Oklahoma City Ham Holiday.
GRT-21/22 and GRR-23/24 will be replaced
EVENTUALLY, but I doubt that it will happen
anytime very soon. Money isnot available!!
In any event, I imagine the current radios
will be around for at least another 6 to 10
years before they are all replaced. It took
over ten years before the current radios totally
replaced all the old tube-type equipment!
They are very good receivers/transmitters
and still pretty darned reliable and mostly
maintainable. Of course, the techs here
at the depot are mostly retired military
and when we retire, the availability of
techs capable of repairs at the component
level will pretty much go away.
GRR-23 is VHF (for 121.5) and GRR-24
is UHF (for 243.0).
I don't have access to crystals, but
here is specs for the crystals for the
emergency frequencies:
GRR-23
fo: 121.5 MHz
fx: 71.05 Mhz
fx = (fo + 20.6) / 2
GRR-24
fo = 243.0
fx = 65.9
fx = (fo + 20.6) / 4 [formula for 225.0 - 312.0 MHz)
You could probably get crystals from International
Crystal in Oklahoma City.
Cheers --- Mac, K2GKK/5
fx = (fo - 20.6) / 4 [formula for 312.025 - 399.975)

Good to hear from you! At the last Mena Hamfest, I was talking to a
fellow who said he worked for the FAA. He mentioned that the GRR-23/24
and the GRT-21/22 sets were going to be replaced in the near future.
True?
At the OKC Hamfest a couple of years ago, I picked up two NIB GRR-23s or
24s, (I also forget which). I thought it would be fun to monitor 121.5
and 343. Have any spare crystals?
Regards,
Jim
