Lead is causing most consumer electronics to be branded as hazardous waste,
and now cost effort & money to get rid of them (at least in CA in the big
city). One day soon, your old BA is going to be looked upon as society does
Asbestos, and PCBs, and guns. Beware....
Europe has some rule that limits the amount of lead in any item imported
after some date like 2005.
Comments like this has got me to wondering if anyone is looking out for the collector of old electronic stuff. It wouldn't be the first time that government, in their zeal to save the universe, has tried to pass laws that as a byproduct would outlaw an established hobby as well. Crushing old cars to decrease emissions and increasing the demil authority of the military that was nearly passed in the last couple of defense spending bills are two that were headed off before they became law. Both were defeated be bigger and better organized collector groups than us militaria collectors.
It would be a shame to have to have a haz mat endorsement on your drivers license to haul your gear to the next show.
