Years ago, I experimented with a Navy (Marine Corps) surplus DAV set using
its integral wet cell battery & vibrator power pack and whip antenna. I had
little difficulty maintaining communications over broken terrain (medium sized
town, woodland, farm fields) with a fixed station on 75 meter phone over a
range of about 5 miles. I don't know that the power was, but as I remember the
set used a plate modulated 3A5 with Ebb = 135 volts.

By the way, although the radio is long gone, I think I still have two NOS,
unused Willard N-T-6 dry-charged wet cell batteries that were used with this
set in my junk box. Anybody interested, make me an offer off list, and I'll
look for them.
