I've probably stated this here before, but it's come to mind again.....at a swapmeet in Seattle
about
12 years ago, i met a man, Lawrence M???? who was a youth in occupied Nederlands. He had
brought to the swapmeet ( to show only!! ) a BC-611 handie-talkie he had found in a ditch beside
a road after some military action - i don't recall which or where. The antenna had been broken
and that's why it had been discarded. He had by the time of the swapmeet acquired and installed
a new antenna. The radio was in very fine shape. One curiousity was that there was a single turn
swath of brown paint maybe 3-4 inches wide up around the length of maybe 75% of the radio's
body, some kind of elementary (and unnecessary, i would think ) camoflouge. This was "surplus
shopping" at the source - no middleman. He told me he had also found a bazooka, and with a
friend had gone off and fired it - a potentially very dangerous exercise. Which now reminds me
also of the English youth who found a MG off a wrecked German plane, and used it to fire on
other German planes at low altitude - absolutely true story, improbable as it seems. Parents -
what are you children getting into, while they're out of your sight?
