I have a C modified to S.It has the LF band and two tags;the normal tag and a small tag in the upper right corner.Go to the MRCG website and look for the picture of the "mystry operator" in the 2004 pictures for a look at this receiver.

Not especially. If it were still a -C it would be if not rare at least
uncommon. According to the AAFHBK, from 07 August 1942, all aircraft leaving CONUS
were required to have receiving equipment covering 200-500 KC. BC-348-H and
later have this sixth band. BC-348-S is reportedly BC-348-C modified to add
the LF/MF band, although the note you mention is possibly the first written
proof that I've heard of. The manual on the BC-348-EMOPS doesn't mention this.
The audio pack was also replaced with the later one which has the Lo-Z output
tap.
Does anyone know of any other early model that was so upgraded?
