Hi

Obviously it's a *S*pecial radio.

The original BC-348 did not have coverage from 200 to 500 KHz. The 
whole topic of coverage below the AM broadcast band is a ongoing item 
here on the list. Simply put the military decided they needed to cover 
to cover 200 to 500 KHz.

When they started doing this they took BC-348C's and shipped them off 
for conversion. The resulting radio was a BC-348s
