Al,
The Scott SLR-F was the standard marine model and the RCH was the Navy
contract nomenclature.
The SLR-F *is* a communications and not an "entertainment" receiver, as
they were used as the ship's main receiver in Liberty ships in WW2, in the
ships which had the Federal Telephone and Radio FT-102 radio consoles,
containing MacKay 167-BY transmitters. The other configuration in the
Liberty and Victory ships was the RCA built consoles, with the RCA
Radiomarine AR-8506 receivers (same frequency range and circuitry similar
somewhat to the SLR-F).
In fact, according to the original FT-102 console manual the Scott SLR-F and
the RMCA AR-8506 receivers were interchangeable and the console provided
spacers for accommodating the differences in the panel sizes of the two
receivers.
BTW I have a complete FT-102 console with the AR-8506 receiver and the
MacKay 167-BY transmitter - 200 W CW 2-24 MHz.
The secret of using these receivers successfully on the crowded CW subbands
is routing the audio through a good audio filter or DSP unit and that makes
a big difference!

Subject: [Milsurplus] E. H. Scottr RCH or SLR-F?
Hi folks,
I'm looking for some info on the subject item, I've done a google &
found quite a bit, but still not sure which model it is, does anyone know
the differences? It's "vintage military" I guess, as they were used as
"morale" rcvrs on shipboard in WW-2. Here's the rambling story of my find
at the DurHamFest (NC):
Sat. I got an E. H. Scott either RCH or SLR-F, not sure which.
It's certainly not a communications rcvr, but with it's wide IF
should be a good broadcast listener, even with a single-ended output.
........... Can anyone shed some more light on this neat old item?
tnx, 73,
