  Three "AAA" cells fit in that space just fine.

  Yep my GRC-9 also did just fine with the bias battery totally dead.

  With that C- battery dead, the audio output tube probably draws more
plate current.  Could be that the extra drain is a problem only if you
are powering the receiver from the external A+/B+ battery -  may lead to
battery life problems.



  Does anyone know where the PP-327 AC supply was meant to be used? 
I've seen in one of the TMs a pic of an application that did use the
PP-327, but I could not make heads or tails of the install or of it's
usage.
