I wonder how you have dealt with the ARC-2's non-selectivity.

I just came across, again, an article in old PE on a 2-terminal test oscillator
using 2 FETs. My thinking was to connect it across the 1st IF and then
to control the oscillator by using a pot instead of a fixed resistor in the 
first FET source lead. This would give you a Q-multiplier that used the
resonant circuit of the ARC-2 equipment and so there's no tracking 
problem.
