There is an ECOM document written in 1976 called "The History of the Squad Radio" that was published about the time that the PRC-68 was being funded by the Marines. Copies of this document are available from W7FG, http://www.w7fg.com/manual.txt, look under "M" for military. In any event, it chronicles the development of experimental radios to replace the PRC-6. Nomenclatures mentioned include the PRC-15, PRC-34/36, and what was to be PRC-26 but was changed to PRC-35 so as to avoid confusion with the CPRC-26 Canadian set. No PRC-51 was mentioned, and I can find nothing on that one either.
