I would have changed the channel too! I sell a GN-58-A every few weeks and
one of my checks before putting it back into its original box is to put a crank
in one end and make sure that neither the gearbox nor the armature are stuck.
I stand up while I do this. It takes quite a bit of force from one hand to
hold the generator down and from the other to turn the crank, even with
nothing electrically connected. They must have pulled the guts out of the one on
the picnic table!
