Amen to that! I like my AN/GRC-9 in almost every detail more than my AN/GRC-109A. Well, except that the key on the -109 transmitter is cute, and the bands are numbered backward on the -9. The RT-77 seems to me to be a decent design as one of the last western all-hollow-state military portable HF sets.
I just wish we could flush out some real live stories about the service use of the AN/GRC-9. I've got to believe there's a few interesting tales to be told from the Korean War era, on into the early 1960s. I wonder if any of them saw use in the early years of the Vietnam War. I've heard that the answer is "no," but how could anyone be sure?
Best regards,
