Certainly it started with old regenerative receivers.  The navy was, and is,
mostly concerned.  There is a navy list of acceptable and unacceptable
receivers from a navy Equipment and Maintenance Bulletin, now available at
http://www.oldtimeradios.com/glowbugs/brunner/  (5 pages)  This is very
interesting, and provides much food for thought.
