My 18S is in storage, but I remember that the dynamotor in the back takes up most of the width of the ATR-sized 18S case.  It's about the same size as the dyno on the DY-12/ART-13.  I seem to recall that its LV input is rated at about 60 amps!

The Bendix RTA-1B (AN/ARC-9) has receiver and transmitter dynamotors in the back of the chassis.  The transmitter dynamotor is closer in size to what you describe.  I'll open my ARC-9 and see this weekend.
