I had _almost_ managed to forget that blankety-blank glowbug modem
with the mechanical resonators: something like 14" or 17.5" of rack
space. Most of them had a really deep dent and lots of scuffed paint
in the lower part of the front panel, where people had kicked them to
get the resonator ringing again when, as it did all too frequently, it
quit.

I remember getting Rixon or Lenkurt sand-state modems in for our
long-haul circuits, to replace those clumsy old boatanchor modems, and
it was _such_ a difference: these teeny-tiny things did everything the
boatanchors did, did it faster, and did it better.

But I still like my R-390 better than any other receiver I've ever 
had!
