Hue, etc: I have a xerox of TM 11-252, which is for the TRC-28 base rig,
comprised of AM-494, cabinet CY-1221, local C-844, remote C-845 (the one
RWD has may have been mine!). PP's -804, -846, and -638, receiver R-394,
and tx T-416, etc. It compats with the VRC-19 'mobile' v., AWA the FRC-27
base/portable, and TRC-34 portable, all of which cover 2 f's between
152-174 mc. On page 19 of the '82 Fair Radio catalog (generally reliable,
tho not always exact), they show a mixed bag of units - if you have the
T-278, it should have a trio of 2E24's (the same PA tube used in the
RT-66/67/68 series) driven by a couple 3B4's (also used in PRC-6, RT-70,
etc.), and an octad of wire-pin tubes such as the 5678, 5672 (u/in PRC-6),
and 1AD4.
The only units I ever had were a couple of PP-846's, the C-845, and a
T-416, which took 'forever' to find a buyer for. I investigated putting it
on 146mc, but the hairpin loop in the PA isn't designed to be adjusted down
that far, and I'd have had to wind a PA coil. Someone, I believe it was
Dennis Starks, said that the problem with the 1.25v filament of the sub-min
tubes was over-voltages. I don't remember if heat build-up might have been
a factor. I retained a PP-846 and it's unique connector, as it has use for
other rigs. BTW, the 25-50mc lo-band rigs are probably the T-208 and R-257.
I'd be interested in a list of what you acquired - you can have this manual
if it would help. Conversely, I could always use the tubes out of it - I
know: I'll swap you the manual for the tubes, O Henry style ... e
