Hi Marty,

That would be the R-4/ARR-2 which combined those functions.  The AN/ARN-1
was the immediate ancestor to the AN/APN-1 radio altimeter.

I've always suspected that this homing system was almost exclusively a USN
and PTO set.  Is there any evidence that the R-1/ARR-1 (JAN version of the
ZB) was paired with the BC-946 for use by the USAAF in the ETO?  A couple of
my R-1/ARR-1 units  have Signal Corps order numbers on them, but so did
almost all of the USN's VHF AN/ARC-5 components.
