    All, I watched the past weekend's D Day shows with a lot of interest
since my Dad was a participant at Omaha Beach,165th Signal Photo Co combat
cameraman attached to the 29th division. Given the closeness of the offshore
element I think the low power 611 could have contacted Naval fire control if
frequencies were prearranged. Dennis mentions the GRC-9 above that a friend
(Pat Melly from Charlestown, Boston) used off beach to afloat element during
the Marine visit to Behruit in 1958 or so. This has been a very interesting
thread for me because I like to find how gear was used and comm doctrine.
