Below comes fm Bob Dennison (W2HBE) art'l in fall '96 QCWA Journal

> anyone know the frequency band these things (prox fuses) worked in?

160 MHZ - a cw radar that triggers on doppler-shift. And they're
          fuZes, not fuses.

> There had to be 100,000s if not millions produced. Maybe someone
somewhere even has the actual figure, or i'd bet it appears in some
  history.

Sylvania was making 500,000/day @ end of ww2. Total production was 130
million

> (someone else) indirect cathodes?

No. But acft-dropped or rockets used prop-driven AC-powered ckt that
filtered out supply freq. (the hum) Atl'y versions used dry-charge
battery where firing jolt spread acid.

Surprising facts:

      1uf squib-fire cap was reportedly world's 1st mylar

the 4 subminis were wrapped in foam sheet then potted. So
      I doubt that ANY survive.

invented by Brits ~1940 for big naval atl'y.

Wonder if W2HBE'd mind an art'l scan & space on web?

Also wonder if anyone out there'd like a $70 URM-25F. No lid. FOB
Atlanta. Revived a month back, assignment over. Guaranteed working.
Immagine that!
