And unless the surplus cell equipment works on the
overseas systems in the 3rd world countries, there is
no need to sell it.

In some ways, the third world countries may be
ahead of us in the cell systems. Cell phones are
relatively cheap, and service is relatively
inexpensive, compared to the US. Plus much of
the service outside the US is GSM, which was not
the original system here in the US. Granted, GSM is
making fast progress against the older analog systems
here in the states.

When I lived in the Philippines, we had one prepaid
GSM Motorola unit that we paid maybe $100 for,
and the service was continuous, by keeping the
account loaded with prepaid cards, so, if we made
no phone calls, we could keep the service going for
$5 every two months, and the incoming calls were
free.

Our personal cell phone in Greece was about $10
per month, a billing service, plus a small amount for
the outgoing calls, and the Sony Erickson phone,
GSM, was free. I found that even with the class of
service we had, I know it roamed in Germany,
Philippines and on the GSM network here in the
states. Keeping the Greece number was nice,
while it lasted, because no one would spend the
dime to call my Greece number unless it was
really important.
