That was the control box for the SCR-522 VHF-AM four-channel radio.  An "A" model box should have two connectors on it, the smallest one going to a variable length VHF antenna's length control circuitry.  That feature was dropped (the fixed length AN-104 was the most commonly used antenna), so most SCR-522 control boxes are the "B" model without the connector to the antenna.
