[Milsurplus] Going price for R-1051's?

Going prices (subject to change without notice ;-) tend to vary according to
the alphabet and some other things.
The R-1051 (plain - there was no "A") tends to run cheaper, mainly because
the minimum stepping at full precision/stability specs is 500 Hz. You can
tune in between with the vernier, but the orange light flashes to warn you
that the unit is not operating as advertised. That feature, common to all
1051's was probably added by the lawyers.
The R-1051B -- went to 100 Hz steps. Price tends to jump up on these from
the "plain". Fair used to sell them for about $350 or so when they had
them. I've seen auction prices range from $200 to around $500 in the past.
There were some other changes in the C (if there is one) D, and E.
Somewhere along the line they went from the two tiny round meters to one
larger 2" square meter (similar looking to those on a R-390) multifunction.
One or two other modes were added. Basic specs remained the same. The G
and H model command the highest prices. Fair used to sell the G's for $650.
Actually, the later models are a mixed blessing, particularly in the area of
the "six-pack" module, where IC's were introduced, which are now much harder
to find than the discrete components of the plains and B's. One of my B's
has a G-module and I've seen these retrofitted on other units.. The later
models -- G and H at least - have more easily changed panel bulbs. The
older style bulbs have to be dug out of unobtainium mines and expensive --
like $45 each according to Nolan Lee's website, though you can improvise
with some effort. Cecil Acuff has been retrofitting them with high
brightness LED's.
Online auction price could be anywhere from the low $200's for a working
plain, to maybe as high as $650-750 is my guess. Allso depending on: who's
looking & bidding, presentation, photograpy, and prevailing winds. Also,
paypal vs. no paypal can make a big difference. If a postal money order or
"cashier's check" is required, you can probably cut the prices mentioned
from 20 to 35%. So .. it all depends, but they're all not necessarily
"$500 plus"
Hope this helps
Barry
