As if I didn't have enough in the queue, the NASM tasked me with
researching the avionics on an early (1944) Navy Gorgon 2A air-to-air
missile. This was guided from the launching aircraft using one of the
earliest RCA airborne TV systems. Would appreciate any information on
the control receiver, one of the Navy RAY-* series. I put some photos
and text at http://members.cox.net/aaf-radio-1/Gorgon.htm for those
interested in such things. (Notice there are no spaces to confound your
browser, Marty... :-) ) Pretty interesting, actually...all-wood
construction by people who were obviously incredible craftsmen in the
medium. This particular example is serial number 20 of a total of 21
made. It seems that the control system wouldn't respond quickly enough
to control inputs, so the Navy moved on to other concepts in the Gorgon
series.
