When I was in high school 30+ years ago , I was thumbing through a war
time edition of either LOOK or LIFE magazine in the local JC library. In
this one particular issue was a photo , that really stuck with me , of a
truck in the Pacific Theater with some radios mounted in it , shown clearly
in one photo and in another photo the same truck but taken from some
distance back also showing a trailer mounted generator away some distance
from the truck. Knowing what I know now and a best effort 30 year + recall
of this I am fairly certain what I saw was a TCM xmtr and RAS rcvr mounted
in a M-2-4 truck and the generator and trailer where a PE-95 and 1 ton
trailer. I have no doubt a TBW could easily be rigged into the truck with a
appropriate wood or metal improvised stand...not using thelegs that are
intended for field use , though would work but how well.... I would also
think the RBM recvrs in their chest would be also be mounted in the truck
too. The TBW generator set would not need a separate trailer to haul it
around in as two men can heft it around.
Has anyone ever seen these two photos that I just mentioned?? I have a
M-2-4 that I want to mount a large rig in besides the TCS that I will mount
in the truck also. I can go with the TCM/RAS or TBW/RBM set ups in the truck
but would sure like to see a photo of what was jury rigged up in the Pacific
War.
As a side note. I am not sure how many have tried to get a TBW up on its
three mounting legs but from my one time experience doing it , it was
something a kin to getting a BC 610 up on stilts. By the way a weld busted
loose on one of the legs and that ended that little adventure.
