Dennis, Chris, Bill, et al,
I have a very poor condition TM 11-1306, the only thing aside from the RA-38
IB's, that I seem to have on the SCR-268. Title is "Technical Operations
Manual for Radio Sets SCR-268, SCR-268-B, SCR-268-C and Radio Sets SCR-516,
SCR-516-C, SCR-516-D and SCR-516-E. Subtitle is "General Description, Operating
Instructions and Equipment Performance Logs".
A footnote to the Table of Component Parts says that BC-677 (and other
related items) may be used in stead of BC-407-A (and other related items). Nothing
in the manual about internal details of anything except for a note that says
that the BC-677 and related items use 13 tubes versus the BC-407-A and related
items that used 37 tubes.
One other note says that SCR-516 and SCR-516-C are converted SCR-268 and
SCR-516-D and SCR-516-E are converted SCR-268-B. The first SCR-516-(*) in each
pair was converted by the manufacturer and the second was converted in the field
with conversion kits. Not much indication of what the conversions consisted
of although an operating frequency change appears to have been one change.
