Saw a photo of a jet conversion of the Fairchild C 123. This prototype had
two jets on each wing, pods from a B 47. No props. Still had the LP 21 football
loop antenna. Did any other jets use this antenna? There were later flush
mount loop equivalent antennas made for the MN 62 (which was essentially the same
as the ARN 7). These later antennas used stationary crossed ferrite bars
instead of a rotating circular loop. I imagine the drag penalty from the LP 21 was
significant as it had a fair amount of frontal area despite the streamlined
shape.
