[Milsurplus] BC-342-(*)

As most of us know, the Signal Corps (and it carried over into the AN system) 
used (*) in place of the revision letter to mean any and/or all models of the 
equipment being listed or discussed.  But I never expected to see it on a 
nameplate.  However, a friend has acquired a BC-342 (apparently anyway as it has 
an RA-20) whose nameplate actually says "BC-342-(*)".  Below that it says Fort 
Monmouth instead of the usual RCA, Farnsworth, etc.  Anyone ever hear of 
such?
