No.  Don't know what they would have done but it wouldn't have been that.

I thought your original question had merit.  Track down who belongs to the 
serial number and his/her dates of service versus paygrade.

It isn't really pertinent to your original question but as USAF have been 
mentioned, USN and USNR used an alpha prefix ("B", for one) near the end before 
the changeover to SSAN's.  Prior to that we used a seven-digit numeric, at 
least for enlisted.  Don't know for sure about Warrants and Zeroes as I was 
commissioned after the changeover.  My original was 696nnnn assigned 08/61.
