I have been asked what the headphone for the BC-222 / -322, Army walkie-talkie
radio looks like. ASSUMING mine is correct, original, which i think applies but
may not be true: The receiver elements are R-14 units. the headband is thin
cloth web, marked ST-20. This goes over the head and also taking off from the
metal clip that holds the R-14 is a leather cord that goes under the chin and cinches
up tight by means of a metal cylinder that can slide on the doubled cord, one from
each earphone, and has some kind of spring loaded lever to loosen it for sliding;
however, mine does not slide at present; perhaps the leather has hardened in that
spot. The actual headphone cord is surprisingly short, no longer than 20 inches. The
earphone cushions are the red body with white outside ridge, which you may also see
on the TBY. Unfortunately, the cushions on this one are hardened and crumbling.
Somewhere i have a box of unused ones, visually they are good but i do fear they also
are hardening. For actual playtime use, i would put aside the present issued headphone
holders-strap assembly and clip on a metal headband from some other headphone. I have
the handset and the microphone and antenna also. I am thinking to substitute for the
battery's mass one might use a 'project box', such as one of the black plastics ones with
metal front panel, as sold by Radio Shack. Somewhere i also have a wire antenna connector
used with the -222/ -322 in trucks. Years ago i passed up an affordable deal for the wood
trunk for the radio set; live, regret, and learn. I did buy a number of microphones around
30 years ago and once i decide how many i "need" to keep, i may have some extras. I hope
this helps. If necessary, perhaps i could take some photos, but not right away.
