EE books (gasp, hold up silver crucifix) say saturation-rating core weight 
is close to a direct inverse proportion of frequency.  Eg. a 10#
800hz xfrmr'd need 140# at 60hz.  Give or take

Many* 2nd generation big computers used a rotary inverter to source their
myriad LV DC supplies.  There weren't any switchers in the 60s.
