[Milsurplus] Hollywood and radio gear...

I had the good fortune a couple of years ago of renting my TBX-8 to the
History Channel for a "History vs Hollywood" episode on the Navajo Code
Talkers which was filmed in Window Rock, Arizona which is the
headquarters for the Navajo Nation. The people I dealt with at THC
seemed to be somewhat knowledgeable about the radios used by the Code
Talkers.

Although they had my radio prominently sitting between the Narrator and
the Code Talkers, it never showed up in the final cut of the show. Most
of this episode was footage from the "Wind Talker's" movie which was
what this episode was based on. I would say less than 10% of what they
filmed was in the final episode. They also paid for me to drive to the
location and paid my hotel bill because they wanted me on the set early
the next morning. Of course when I got there, they said you don't need
to be on the set until 11 am!

Despite my radio not showing up on this show, it was a neat and fun
experience and getting paid was even better. I did get to spend quite a
bit of time talking to the code talkers when they weren't filming. Their
stories which were obviously not all aired due to time constraints were
pretty amazing. Their comments on the Wind Talker's film were also
pretty amusing.

Upon seeing my radio, one of the code talkers said. ."That damn radio
nearly got me killed!"

Here are a couple of photos from the shoot

You are also seeing a BC-611 on top the TBX-8. I brought it along as an
extra and the producer insisted upon using it.
