As I said in a previous note, I think these are initial compliments, 
likely changed in Theater due to combat lessons learned.  VHF was a 
latecomer to the Pacific area, in part because of the distances 
involved, so a timeframe is essential when speculating on the possibilities.

I have a photo of the pair in an SBD, but I don't know what the time 
period of the photo was.  As you said, it seems like a natural match for 
liaison work.

The GP-7 is dual voltage - has straps for both 14 and 28 volts.  Of 
course, it's the job of the electrical guys to get 115vac at 800~ power 
to it...
