Hi Mike and the Group
I have a photocopy of a Navy document, which states that
it is taken from a "Bureau of Aeronautics list as published in 1942."
The back page has a handwritten notation that it is an
"Appendix from "Aircraft Radio"
Naval Air (something I can't make out) Mare Island
(something else I cant read).
Here is what the list shows....
The GP series almost always is paired off with some version of the RU.
For example, the TBD-1 (Devastator) shows a GP-3 paired with
and RU-5 and RU-6.
The ARB is paired with the ATB only for the F6F and F7F, everywhere
else shows it paired with an ATD. No mention of the ATC.
The SBD-3 shows a GP-7 paired with an RU-19. The R4D-3 shows
a GP-7 paired with an RA-18, but could this be a typo, should it
be RA-1B or RU-18??? Did the GP-7 come in a 14 volt version?
Transports seem to have mostly Bendix gear, mostly RTA-1 or TA-2/RA-1 combinations.
The R4D-1 (C-47) shows an SCR-183 and SCR-187 but the later version show
Bendix
RAX-1 shows up in PBB-1, PBM-3 and -4, and PB2Y-3
and -4 and JR2S-1
Couple of other interesting things:
The JRF-1 shows a GP-3 and RU-6 and also something
called a GQ for both transmitter and receiver. Anyone
know what a GQ is? What was the JRF-1? Was this the
Goose or one of the famous Grumman twin engine amphibs?
The XPB2Y-1 and XPBS-1 show a GN/RAM combination.
Anyone know what this is?
