The AN/ARC-8 and AN/ARC-3 setup was known as AN/MRC-20, at least it was when
you added in the AN/ARC-27 for the newer UHF equipped aircraft. Wonder what
the nomenclature of the SCR-287 equipped set was?
Local guy here associated with one of the museums (and a retired COL) was
over at my storage building Saturday picking up some goodies and said that in
1950 when he first went to Korea, they had Jeeps equipped with the AN/VRC-1
(SCR-193-A and SCR-542-A). But at least according to the photos in the AN that I
have, all of the radio equipment was installed in a proper steel chest (CH-217)
on the back of the Jeep. The Jeeps had the 12 Volt generator conversion kit
installed but the manual that I have doesn't give any details other than the
single mention of it.
