Subject: Hell-80
Hi
A friend of mine can get hold of a number of Hell-80 terminals. Price 200
Euro each, in Holland. Are you interested?
The Hell-80 machine has a bit rate which is exactly double that of
Feldhell, and uses a two-tone system. I suppose that some people would
call
this an FM system.
It also uses a stop tone. The transmitting machine sends a stop tone to
stop itself transmitting, and also to stop the receiving machine from
receiving. Sounds a bit complicated, but it works very well. I found that
Hell-80 transmissions are more or less bullet-proof. We set up a link on
80
metres once, and they just chugged away all day long with no problems.
The Hell-80 machines were made in the 1960's, but the Bundeswehr did not
buy a large quantity of them, as it did with the Feldhell machine. The
encoder is quite modern - it uses a magnetic core Read-Only memory:
I have suggested that Nino should put the Hell-80 standard into some
release of his famous program, but he has not got round to it yet.
