Back in the late '60s-early '70s I worked on aircraft avionics-weapons
for some folks. Some of the guys were from Air America or Evergreen. One
fellow, Chuck Terebonne had been in a PBY "Black Cat" squadron in WWII
flying support to coast watchers etc. He said they would land at night then
off load stuff to canoes/bancas crewed by scarified natives and an Aussie
"blackbirder". The canoe crew was armed with Thompsons, Stens, and blow
guns..so there was some Brit/Yank/Plantation cross over. Its been a while
(1973??) but what I remember was melanesian rather than P.I. in Chuck's
stories.
