Mebbe a B+ decoupling problem between 1st audio & audio out.  Good
electrolytic in RC decoupling n/w shudda fixed it.

Or if '474 has built-in speaker (I dunno), microphonics.

Or maybe it hurt somewhere... 

which reminds me of F. Zappa's version of 'Ring of Fire' where where 
he comments on fall where flames going "higher-higher-higher" 
and alters to "ow ow ow, that ring of fire"
