Group:

I have encountered a bunch of copies of covers and title pages of
instruction manuals for pre-WW2 and early 40s Navy DF sets (two letter D#
equipments) which indicate the acquisition source for the copies was the
Office of Publication Board, Department of Commerce. Each has an
accession number written on it. For example, Marty, the manual for the
DZ-2 has accession numbers PB15 080 and PB14 808. One is a 1939
contract, and the other a 1942 contract. NAVAER 08-5Q-270 is the Navy
manual number. If you really want to dig for nonexistant, I can also
give you the RCA part numbers for the manuals.

These copies were obtained from somewhere in 1965. The cover page on
each title indicates copies were $.15 per page in 1965, so they may be
really pricey now. I have no way of knowing if they came from DOC or
another repository, but several have DOC notes attached to a page when it
was copied, indicating the Pub. Board was the original source. Most were
Restricted when published. Looking at the pages, I offer a guess that
they originate on microfilm, but the actual pages were early Xerox copies
of the print, or maybe an early microfilm to Xerox printer, as they have
the dark edge, fading background of 1960s Xerox on pictures, while the
text is sharp and clear.

Sooooooooo, anybody got any idea how to order PB numbers? And where
from?

If there is a source still in existance, making these PB numbers of some
value, I will post the list of the cross references I have for those of
you needing manuals.
