Leigh,
I don't know that anyone has ever come across any production figures, but the
number is certainly in the high thousands. I have an early -F here S/N 7335
and a late -F S/N 31770. Both Galvin. One is 10531-Phila-44-01 and the other
10531-Phila-45-01. I've often speculated whether the -44- was a misprint
corrected after a few hundred nameplates were made, as June '44 seems a little
early for the -F. Don't know whether the S/N's ran continuous, but the late -F
started at S/N 8691 on order 10531-Phila-45-01, and other circuit changes are
mentioned at 5635 and 9758. This per an 03/45 Addendum to TM 11-235 of 05/43.
And then there was the ERLa production on at least other two order numbers.
Here the late -F started at S/N 13300 on 8259-Phila-45-01. The S/N for the
two circuit changes are given as 9740 and 12100.
Don't know whether Galvin and ERLa were given blocks of S/N's or whether the
same S/N's can be found on nameplates from the two contractors. I do know
that the serial numbers did not run continuously up from the BC-611-A through the
BC-611-F, as the S/N on one of my BC-611-C's is higher than the one on my
BC-611-D. And some of the -F S/N mentioned in the various Addenda are lower than
those on some nameplates I have for earlier models, except the one on my only
BC-611-A.
