I have also heard the death-knell soundeed for amateur radio several
times. Very recently, someone was decrying the lack of activity on their
local repeaters out in AZ, I think. Lucky guy. Here, the activity is
just beginning to decrease to a dull roar.
But, if all this is so, how come it is so hard to find an empty frequency
on 20 meters anytime, or on 40 or 75 at night? Fifty years ago, when I
was just starting out, there were few daytime signals on any band, and DX
on twenty was there for the working by us high school students, until the
working stiffs got home and filled up the bands. Turn your receiver on
right now and listen to 20. Any holes?
I rest my case.
