FWIW: 28 years ago, many hams similarly thought that digital (AmTOR, Packet)
would weaken/destroy the hobby. I heard all the arguments back when Uncle
Lon
held the callsign that I do now. Seems to me that Ham Radio and Digital are
both still
here. 10 years ago, I again heard similar grumbling about hams using
Lightwave to
QSO. And 2 years ago about EchoLink and similar Radio-Internet-Radio setups.
All were going to mean the end of Ham Radio. So far, they have not
destroyed, but
have rather enhanced the hobby. There are niches all over the place now. I
guess,
that many folks get set in their ways, and like things done just 'so'. Glad
they didn't
stop developing radios at the Spark Gap transmitter......
