I have an AN/USM-338 made by Hewlett Packard that also carries the HP Model
No. 1348A. I understand it is supposed to be similar to the HP-1707B for which
I have the tech manual (everything looks about the same).
I've got a problem with the Channel B attenuator. I know exactly what's wrong
-- a short across C9, C10 that grounds the cold end of R19. The frustrating
thing is I can't figure out how to get to the attenuator to make repairs.
The tech manual says to first remove the Vertical Amplifier Module. I've
reached the point where it says "Unsolder the leads from INPUT connectors." What
input connectors are they talking about -- the BNC Channel input jacks? If so,
good luck. They are completely buried until the Vertical subchassis comes out.
It seems as though the front subpanel is being held to the instrument panel
by the BNC connector nuts. The BNC connectors are totally inaccessible.
Anybody got any suggestions?
Since I don't have the real USM-338 tech manual, it's possible that I am
going about this the wrong way. If anybody has one, I'd sure appreciate a couple
of FAX pages of the appropriate section.
