Yes.  People think stainless steel is resistant to everything.  Actually, if
I remember correctly, it depends on oxygen to form a resistant barrier to
slow or stop corrosion, and in the absence of oxygen it will corrode
quickly.  There was a fad to use stainless-steel ground rods instead of
copper-clad steel ones, often with bad results.  If the ground is not well
aeriated, supplying air and oxygen, the stainless rods quickly corrode into
pieces.  (There goes your ground system!)
