Battery worries at an end ?--- nearly !?
. As reported in Melbourne press this AM, a local company has
"developed a tiny , near silent diesel generator small enough for a
soldier to wear on his belt and powerful enough to run all his
equipment "
A defence dept grant of A $1.5 M helps and company says the
production prototype about a year away. "The diesel generator is
about the size of a model aircraft engine, direct fuel injection,
electronic control, multiple valves. ceramic liner, overhead cams in
a machine weighing less than a kilogram including fuel and generates
about 25 watts at 7 volts"
Apparently US military in Iraq uses 2 tonnes of batteries a day, each
weighs 1 Kg, and not rechargeable with a cost of US $100.per each.
Sounds just the thing for GPS, night-vision goggles, laser rifle
sight, radio and chemical warefare detector.!
This writer doesnt hold stock in the company not in any battery
manufacturer- fortunately!

What's next?
