Clete,

SCS-1 and -2 were the WW-II Signal Corps nomenclatures (plus there were
others, mostly SCR-xxx). Probably by the time you joined, AAF and shortly USAF
were calling it something out of the newer AN/ system, but the individual
equipment nomenclature mostly did not get changed.

AN/TRC-1, 3, 4 and AN/TRA-1 came out in late '43. The original manual is 6
days older than I am. :-)

I would have thought that at least with the VHF equipment, the squadrons
would have used the RA-62 AC supply for the SCR-522 along with the antennas and
other components of the SCR-624 (as they did in Europe earlier). It was powered
by a PE-75 if shore power wasn't available. The shift to UHF probably did
result in a lot of ad hoc ground sets. There was a ground power supply for the
AN/ARC-27 (which made it an AN/GRC-32) but I'm not sure when it came out. I
never heard of one being built for the AN/ARC-12 so it would have had to be run
off of 28VDC. Judging from the TM dates, it doesn't look like the AN/GRC-27
entered service until '51/'52, well after the war started. But then neither
did most of the radios and other equipment that we think of as Korean War
vintage.
